Through the years, people have been looking for a mid-sized sedan that is perfect for mid-sized families. Taking into account the conditions that it should be fuel efficient, reliable, and comfortable. Many car brands have presented cars to these people; but, the two that have stood against the test of time and have only improved with the years is Toyota’s Camry and Honda’s Accord. Both cars have been around for decades providing consumers with top of the line quality and reliability that beats other competitors. Both Honda and Toyota are car manufacturers from Japan, which only solidifies the reputation of Japan as a country that produces products that are quality-ensured. Not only that but they also hold their customers with importance, that is why both these car brands have their fair share of loyal customers. Also, historically speaking, both the Camry and Accord is at the list of top selling cars in automotive history.

The Camry and Accord are made with only reliability, comfort, and sensibility, in mind. All these makes both car models an all-time favorite for many people. These cars rich history and continuous development throughout the years is actually definitive proof of the car’s excellence. They were not designed to have the most eye-catching design but, they still have a following that transcends a simple love for cars. Also, when these cars came out in the 1980’s, they immediately became the embodiment of what a mid-sized sedan should look like. If you think about it, both of these car’s allure is not their sleek lines or limit-defying speeds, but it’s their delivery of ample space, reliability, elegant interior, and fuel efficiency that is in the top – or even leading in their respective segments. That’s why it’s a good idea to put these cars head to head against each other!

Both these cars offer about the same amount of interior space, but technically, the Accord has a larger cabin space than the Camry. Even with this fact there is still a common opinion that the Camry’s interior space makes you feel like you won’t ever need a larger car!

The main difference between the Accord and Camry is that the Accord uses upscale materials for its interior while the Camry uses the commonly used materials for vehicles. Both model’s seats are comfortable for long-term driving while providing comfort for passengers as well. The aspect where the Accord loses is the adjust-ability of the seats because it retains its manual adjustment knobs which may cause trouble for the driver while the Camry offers power adjustment for its seats which entails comfortability and ease while driving. So far, the Camry wins in this aspect because of its surprising space – for both the front and back seats, the power adjustment for seats, and its overall comfortability and smooth ride while driven.

Engine

For the Toyota Camry, it comes standard with a 2.5 liter, four-cylinder engine that produces 178 horsepower and 170 pounds of torque. You can also choose the 3.5 liter V6 engine that can bring out 268 horsepower and 248 pounds of torque. All of these come with a six-speed automatic transmission that perfects your driving experience.

While the Honda Accord comes standard with 2.4 liter four-cylinder engine that can come up with 185 horsepower, while the Sport variant can reach 189 horsepower with the help of its high-flow, dual exhaust system. The Accord also has a six-speed automatic transmission while also having a Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT) variant.

Fuel Economy

Keep in mind that both these cars take pride in their fuel efficiency, which is also one of the reasons why so many people love them. Also, with the gas prices reaching an all-time high, fuel efficiency became one of the main factors when purchasing a vehicle. For the Toyota Camry, the average fuel consumption for it is 24 miles per gallon in the city while in the highway, its consumption is 33 miles per gallon. Meanwhile, for the Accord, its consumption is 27 miles per gallon while in the city, while for the highway it reaches 37 miles per gallon. The Accord wins by a short margin which is great but for both of these cars, the fuel consumption is already excellent when compared to other sedans out in the market.

Other Aspects

For the infotainment system, the high-end Accord comes in with state of the art dual screen system that you can use to show the navigation map in the top screen while using the audio system in the lower screen. But, the takeaway is that the Accord’s controls system is essentially hard to control because the lower screen is often distracting, harder to use, and is coupled with the sometimes difficult to use touchscreen buttons.

Meanwhile, the Camry offers a simpler infotainment system that has physical buttons attached to the steering wheel which makes it easier to control and is hassle free because you only need to move your fingers and not your whole hand. Of course, the lower end Accord offers physical buttons as well but not as diverse as the Camry’s.

For the cargo space, both sedans are almost equal in space but the Accord has 15.8 cubic feet while the Camry has 15.4 cubic feet of space. The small difference is actually negligible because the difference of .4 cubic feet is almost indiscernible.

The Verdict

Both the Accord and Camry’s differences are minimal but there has to be a clear winner between the two. The winner for this head to head battle is the Camry! Why? Because with the minimal differences, the Camry still has enough important factors that helps it come out on top. Obviously, the Accord has its own pros but overall, the Camry makes more of an impact to win this battle. The aspect where the Accord wins has little impact on the overall rating of the car while the aspects where the Camry wins in is as important as the engine of the car. The Accord won in terms of fuel efficiency and cargo space but in all other aspects such as the engine, comfort and maximization of space, the Camry comes out on top. Which is to say: the clear winner of this battle is obviously the Toyota Camry!

Most of these differences will be answered by both Toyota and Honda with every change they make to their cars. So, never doubt that they’ll soon produce a car that can satisfy all of their customer’s needs. Both the Camry and Accord has been around for decades now, but through the years it will only get better!
